EXPLORING THE PROCESS OF SILK SCREEN PRINTING
New prints that are hot off the press!
I just started exploring the world of silk screening. Well, there was those good ol’ days where I used to hand cut stencils with an exact-o blade and sharpie, then proceed to hand sponge fabric paint, but this is much better.
To silk screen I start by designing a vector illustration with Adobe Illustrator. A nice clean image with bold lines gives me a sharp burn.
The image is then printed onto transfer paper, placed on an screen that is evenly coated in emulsion, and the light burns the image into your screen.
Then the screen is ready to print. Using a squeegee and fabric ink you make your print. Then VOILIA, your image is transferred & you are ready to heat press your image so it stays on there (very important).
These prints are printed on a nice cotton and some are hand dyed with tie-dye techniques.
Overall I am pretty happy with where this is going. I love being able to combine my graphic design diploma with my extensive background in fashion and textiles. This is just the beginning. I look forward to growing more with the fibres and ink.
